Let’s call it like it is - a mother’s love is a little unhinged, right? Right? RIGHT? Yeah, because in a moment of questionable judgement I signed up for something a little insane.
At the end of March I will be taking on a 2.5 mile channel swim between the Caribbean islands of St. Kitts and Nevis. When I signed up for this challenge I thought a good way to hold my own feet to the fire would be to make it a fundraiser. With this in mind, I reached out to The Children’s Tumor Foundation (@childrenstumor) to create a fundraiser that will benefit kids and families who live with Neurofibromatosis. This cause is particularly close to my heart as it is the condition our Henry was diagnosed with when he was just 3 years old (he is a thriving 17 year old now.) The money I raise will fund life-changing and life-saving research for treatments and a cure for NF.... and the thought of that will literally pull me through my time in the churning ocean.
Also for the entertainment factor, please know I am not a particularly strong swimmer. I was absolutely NOT on any sort of swim team at any point in my life. I will train my heart out with focus and determination but I promise you, there will be plenty of #oldladyswimming happening during this event. I’m also hellbent on having a good time while doing it, so there will be laughs. Many laughs.
